GirlTrek at the 49th Annual African American Day Parade in Harlem, NY
Join us for the 49th Annual African American Day Parade in Harlem, NY!!!
Completely optional to attend for the entire time. The theme of the parade this year is "Culture is Key" and they will honor individuals and organizations that have made key contributions to furthering the dignity, determination and excellence of African American culture. It's an honor for GirlTrek to participate as well and encourage self care and walking! We will be lining up for the parade on a specified block -- you can't miss the sea of blue shirts! Remember to wear comfortable walking shows and your superhero blue shirts (if you don't have one that's ok, try to wear something blue or white). We anticipate a very big turn out! Can't wait to see you there! The parade route is city streets and about a mile long. This event is rain or shine. The PARADE ROUTE Starts at W. 111th Street & Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd and proceeds north to W. 136th Street. Participants make a right on W. 136th Street ending on Malcolm X. Blvd. Also Porta Sans (mobile restrooms) are located on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd at 111th, 126th & 136th Street. Feel free to bring children and teens with you we just need to know and we need you to sign liability consent forms for them. The parade starts at 1pm sharp. We are told to line up before 12pm hence the 11:45am arrival time. We will find out what order we walk in at the time of the parade so it can be right away or we may have to wait a bit. Please come with a flexible outlook. Be sure to bring your patience & enthusiasm as we celebrate our African American culture, heritage & legacy as a community! Arrive camera ready! Local media broadcasting & livestream taking place! We will need volunteers to hand out flyers and to hold the banners (we will have two; one for GirlTrek and one for Black Girls Rock). Contact Keturah if you have any questions. Thanks everyone! Look forward to seeing you there!
