Why did you join the GirlTrek Movement?
"...because I used to be a teacher in Atlanta, Newark and Bridgeport. One time, I brought a bag of trail mix to work for a snack. The kids asked to taste it. They asked me why I liked "that healthy stuff". I learned that my lifestyle decisions were as important as my history lesson plans. It's like James Baldwin said "Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them."

Morgan's first GirlTrek goal was set in 2008. She set out to complete a 50 mile backpacking trip. The photo to the left was taken on that trip! This 11-day training, led by the National Outdoors Leadership School (NOLS) certifies her as a Trip Leader
1) To run the Chicago Half Marathon
2) To become a certified yoga instructor
1) Cross the finish line
2) Complete 200 hours of teacher training/AES Certificate
1) September, 13, 2009
2) July 1, 2010
I will continue to run 3 miles every other day, until I can do it with ease, (I'm almost there!) Then I will increase by increments of 1/2 mile each week. Basically I'll follow "The Plan" outlined on the blog. For yoga, my strategy is practice, practice, practice! I want discipline. I will increase yoga practice to least 3x per week (at least 1x in a group class). Yoga is a traditional Indian physical and mental discipline, so I want to learn the basics of Buddhist and Hindu philosophy, so that I'm not a corny American teacher. I also need to . I'll be training in Belize in February.
Doritos, my comfortable bed, and $, oddly enough, yoga training can be expensive - sacrilege!
