Sunshine, friendship and adventure await!
What is SummerTrek?
SummerTrek is an opportunity for high school girls to experience backpacking, horseback riding, kayaking, mountain biking, and a host of other high energy outdoors adventures. They unplug and learn that fresh air and healthy living can be a life changing!
SummerTrek is a 7-day experience, designed by GirlTrek, to prepare, inspire and empower high school girls to stand up as ambassadors of healthy living in low resource communities. Girls work hard to make healthy choices and think through strategies to transfer those habits and skills to their communities.
The goal of SummerTrek is to expose girls to fun, new outdoor adventures and nutritious food, to teach basic health classes and transferable exercises and fitness activities and to provide an exhilerating group challenge - a 3-day backpacking trip. For a peek at our daily schedule click here.

Admission Criteria
SummerTrek applicants must demonstrate a strong capacity to lead and embrace a healthy lifestyle.
GirlTrek believes in the power of potential and welcomes students with a wide range of academic skills. Our program depends on each girl having the freedom to find her voice and explore her boundaries. Only girls who have consistently demonstrated personal responsibility and respect for peers and adults will be considered. GirlTrek is designed to serve high school girls. Girls must be in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade to apply.
GirlTrek serves Black, Latino and Native American girls, because they are statistically most at-risk. Preference will be given to girls from communities with limited access to health education, services and facilities. Our hope is to serve students who attend public schools and students who will be the first in their family to graduate from college. To participate, each girl is required to get a full physical with written consent from a doctor. While the summer experience will be challenging, it does not center on weight loss or physical conditioning. We believe that leaders come in all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. Our goal is to teach girls to make healthy lifestyle choices. With a healthy attitude, education and support, we believe that all girls can become conduits of change in their families and communities.
Financial Assistance:
GirlTrek seeks to eliminate cost as a barrier for participation. Will there will be a nominal costs for particaption, we will work with each family to ensure that it is affordable.
