Meet Vanessa
Why did you join the GirlTrek Movement?

"...because I'm vain. ...because I have lost many loved ones, way too young, to obesity related illnesses.  ...because when I am fit, I feel powerful, capable and appreciative of the blessings of life."

The Mini-Apple! Minneapolis, MN

In 2008, Vanessa trained for and completed a 5K race in Minneapolis.  It was her first race ever.  You can see her in action on the left!

To finish the Chicago Half Marathon

I will know I am successful when I cross the finish line - crawling, walking, being dragged... as long as I cross. But I am also aiming for a personal goal of 8 minute miles, down from my current 10.5 minute miles.

Saturday, September 13, 2009

I started running (from scratch) in July 2008. I ran my first 5k in September. I am planning to gradually increase my events over the spring and up my weekly runs. I am currently running 4.5 miles 4 times a week.

My biggest hurdle will be the cold Minnesota weather. It's already becoming very hard to get the motivation to get outside (wind chill today was 16 degrees) and I don't like running inside on the treadmill. I'm also prone to pure laziness, but this is not a hurdle. It's an excuse. My weakness - it's holiday time! Banana Pudding!
