Backyard Treasure - Little Tor Trail
Little Tor Trail is a moderate 1.7 mile hike up the South Mountain in High Tor State Park. Total mileage is 3.4 miles in and back. The Trail is in a forest setting, lined with rocks and gravel, mostly flat, with a couple of uphill climbs to wonderful views of the beautiful town of Haverstraw and the mighty Hudson River below. The entrance to the trail is on S. Central/Highway 33 (or North 33 if coming from Spring Valley), across from a sign for South Mountain Park. There is no sign for the Little Tor trail, other than a gate. So, let’s meet at 7:45AM, at the New York Sports Club/Haverstraw Kings Daughters library parking lot on Rte 202, and drive to the trailhead together. The plan is to start hiking at 8:00AM. There is no access to the trail from the High Tor pool. Parking is FREE, no restrooms.
Bring water, energy snack, wear sturdy shoes, a walking stick and sun block.
