Mt. Falcon Sunset Hike
Mt. Falcon Sunset Hike
It is going to be a hot week in Denver so pop up into JeffCOs Open Space park that sits a little higher than the city and is cool enough to have ferns around the remains of the old Walker castle ruins. We will start at the signage near the restrooms by the park's west parking lot. We will meander the Meadow and Castle trails to make it to the site of the Walker ruins. The site contains some fascinating history of the man and family behind our Red Rocks Amphitheater including their ambition to create a building to host vacationing Presidents in Colorado. The site is also fascinating for its own weather patterns where fog and moisture collect even when the rest of the city can be dry and hot. Bring water, good hiking shoes, a snack, a flashlight (just in case), and a camera for a cool story that most people miss when passing nearby on the 470 or 285. We will aim for 3.3 moderate miles with a return before it gets dark.
