“HARRIET’S Premier Superhero Saturday”
SUPERHERO SATURDAY HONORING the film premiere, ‘HARRIET’!!
My Girltrek Sistahs from the North-South-East-West, let’s celebrate and take to the pavement as Bold, as Courageously, as Fierce and as Strong as Our Beloved Harriet and meet at Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing...
Free black Mary Meachum, an African-American abolitionist, the widow of the Reverend John Berry Meachum, used the basement of her St. Louis home as a stage on the Underground Railroad for slaves seeking freedom in the north. Fugitive slaves used this river access as an escape route to the free state of Illinois prior to the Civil War.
We will meet at the Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing Mural and hike along the banks of the Mississippi River using the St. Louis Riverfront Trail. PLEASE ARRIVE AT 7:45am. We will leave promptly at 8am.
(This is an 11-mile paved trail along the Mississippi River, between the Gateway Arch and the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge.)
*We will only trek 30 minutes rain or shine.
*Wear comfortable shoes and dress weather appropriate.
*Bring your water or sports drink to stay hydrated.
