GirlTrek Overtown SuperHERo Saturday is paying homage to those who sacrificed for our right to vote!
Today marks the 55th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama. In 1965 during what was supposed to be a peaceful demonstration for voting rights. As they walked across the Edmond Pettus bridge, 600 unarmed people were brutally attacked by law enforcement officers with billy clubs and sprayed them with tear gas.
We at GirlTrek Overtown are honoring their incredible sacrifices. First we will meet at Williams park, get our trek on from 8-9am. Please, wear your comfortable walking shoes and bring your water bottle to keep you hydrated.
For those who are able to stay, please join the DWC and hear first hand from representatives of the current democratic presidential candidates. 9-10 enjoy some snacks and bubbly followed at 10 by the forum.
