Sundae Sermon Sunday family gatherings have been a staple in the black community from church to soul food dinners and so much more. In partnership with Washington State Parks Golden Bricks Events Presents: Sundae Sermon at Lake Sammamish State Park. This afternoon at one of the region’s most iconic parks is set to be a fun, festive, and spirited event. And it wouldn't be Sundae without the ice cream. This is a free family friendly event open to the public. HOSTED ACTIVITIES: Hike w/ Girl Trek Guided Bird Walk Oshun Swim School Lessons CONCERT LINEUP: DJ Mixx America Jolyn GC Naomi Wachira Seattle singer-songwriter Naomi Wachira was born in Kenya and grew up singing gospel music in a choir of family and friends. Inspired by the music of Tracy Chapman and Miriam Makeba, Wachira saw the potential for song to make the world a better place and set out to create music that is “poignant, hopeful and life-giving.” Northside Step Team Since 2000 the award winning Northside Drill Team and Step Team of Seattle, Washington has been teaching youth the principles of harmony, leadership, and discipline through performing arts and community service. We are dedicated to providing children and youth with an artistic way of expression in order to prevent negative behaviors. Northside’s colors are majestic navy and optimistic silver. Kamari Bright Driven by the desire to chronicle history-in-the-making through the innovative use of poetry, comics, books, film, and occasionally fashion; the work produced by Kamari Bright aims to inspire all creative souls, from young to seasoned. She often pulls inspiration from introspection and observation, examining history and current events. An opus of creativity, Kamari produces a relatable experience through the arts. Gretchen Yanover Locally grown Seattle cellist Gretchen Yanover has been attached to her instrument since she began playing at the age of ten in her public school music program. She was immersed in the world of classical music until her college years, when she expanded her range to include playing in bands. Once she was introduced to a loop sampler, Gretchen found a new voice for her instrument. She began to improvise and compose in this context, creating her own instrumental atmospheres and melodies. She has three solo albums to date. Kouyate Arts A West African Music, song and dance performance company, directed by husband and wife duo Boka and Afua Kouyate. The sight s and sounds of the Kouyate Arts is an exotic blend of celebration and awareness. Live music, song, and dance provides a festive and dynamic style of West African culture.
