Let's Go Ch8sing Waterfalls - Chapter 18
Join us as we set out on the second ch8se of 2019. We will travel near Ellijay, GA for what may be a long drive for some, but so well worth it.
This short, beginner-friendly adventure on the Benton MacKaye Trail explores a scenic, lush forest and visits one of Georgia’s most beautiful waterfalls. While the hike to Fall Branch Falls is nearly all uphill, and mildly challenging, it’s well worth the effort: the waterfall’s double cascades are simply beautiful, framed in gnarly-branched rhododendron and mossy, blocky rocks. It’s one of the top easy hikes near Blue Ridge, thanks to its relatively short distance and wonderfully scenic beauty. Mossy forest, a clear mountain trout stream, and abundant sweet-smelling Georgia forest air are all highlights on this great hike, not to mention the beautiful waterfall. Hiking boots are recommended, as are hiking poles or hiking sticks.
Pack a snack for the drive, and hydration for after the hike.
The last 10 miles of the drive is on a gravel road, not nearly as bad as Minnehaha, but you need to know.
