Issa birthday trek (cue the drums)! Join Michelle Duster , great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells, GirlTek and special guests for the 4th Annual #IdaTrek as we celebrate the life and legacy of Ida B. Wells. On the heels of Ida B. Wells birthday (July 16th), women and girls of Chicagoland will continue to walk in the direction of radical change in tribute to her legacy as an uncompromising journalist, activist, and voice of the Women's and Civil Rights Movements. The 2-mile walk through the Bronzeville community will begin at the Ellis Arts and Recreation Center at 3520 S. Cottage Grove Ave at 8:30 am. EARLY ARRIVAL ENCOURAGED. Walk pushes off promptly at 9am. The walk ends at the Langley Boulevard median plaza, on site of the future Ida B. Wells sculptured monument. Enjoy live performances from percussionist, LyghtSkin, and Lesle Honore, poet and author. In solidarity of the walk, please wear a white top or official GirlTrek gear (Need new gear?
