Self-care is a revolutionary act

In GirlTREK, walking isn't just exercise. It's a lifeline.

Walking 30 minutes a day is one of the most powerful things a Black woman can do for her body, her mind, and her community. It’s free. It requires nothing you don’t already have. And when you walk with GirlTREK, it’s always more than a walk — it’s liberation.

Mantras for Daily Resistance:

“I don’t need permission to care for myself.”

“Every victory is worth celebrating.”

“My own life has to be my message.”

“I am worthy of rest and rejuvenation.”

START WHERE YOU ARE

Your first step—Sisterhood Saturday

Every Saturday, thousands of GirlTREK women across the country lace up their sneakers and walk. Some walk with their crews. Some walk solo. But all of us walk together — in solidarity, in sisterhood, in the shared commitment that our lives are worth showing up for.

1 day a week. That's where it starts.

Whether Saturday is your first walk of the week or your fifth, you belong here. There is no behind. There is only the next step forward.

How to show up:

  • Walk in your neighborhood, a local park, or a favorite trail
  • Invite a sister to join you — solidarity is our superpower
  • Log your walk in the GirlTREK Underground app and see your steps join thousands of others in real time

START WALKING

Walk at a Life-Saving Rate

5 days a week. 30 minutes a day. That's the prescription — straight from the CDC — for a longer, healthier life.

Walking at that rate reduces the risk of heart disease by 51%, stroke by 53%, and diabetes by 58%. For Black women, who face these conditions at disproportionate rates, hitting that number isn't just a fitness goal. It's an act of survival.

Sisterhood Saturday gets you started. The GirlTREK Underground app helps you track every walk, stay consistent, and see your progress build in real time.

Build the Habit

Stay Consistent. That's all it takes to turn a decision into a daily practice.

Research shows that 21 days of consistent action rewires your brain and builds a habit that sticks. Three weeks of showing up for yourself and walking becomes part of who you are.

GirlTREK is with you through every one of those 21 days. The app tracks your progress, your crew keeps you accountable, and every step brings you closer to the version of yourself you're walking toward.

Victory Laps: Celebrate Every Saturday You Showed Up

The last Saturday of every month is Victory Lap day — and you've earned it.

GirlTREK members across the country put on their Superhero Blue and gather to celebrate the commitment they've made to themselves and each other. Your crew might walk through a historic neighborhood, end at a community picnic or local coffee shop, or walk together to the polls during early voting. However your city celebrates, the message is the same: we showed up, we kept going, and we're not stopping.

We know walking works.
We've got the stories to prove it.

In parks, on sidewalks, in churches, at meetings, on the mountaintop, Black women are experiencing that walking can be a life transforming ritual. They're telling the stories of weight loss, more mobility, less medication, self-care and sisterhood.
