A SISTER’S JOURNEY
Monica had reached a breaking point until she found GirlTREK.
When Monica, a mother of three in Mississippi, joined GirlTREK, she was at a breaking point—juggling caregiving, work, and the silent toll of hypertension. She laced up her sneakers one Saturday and never looked back.
Today, Monica leads a walking crew of 30 women in her neighborhood. Together, they’ve reclaimed sidewalks, built a garden in an abandoned lot, and helped each other schedule overdue doctor’s appointments. Monica isn’t just walking; she’s leading a quiet revolution in her community.

This is health justice — not charity.
Black women in America face one of the lowest life expectancies in America — with early death driven by inactivity, isolation, and injustice. GirlTREK addresses these “three deadly I’s” with a simple theory of change: walk to reduce inactivity, talk to eliminate isolation, and solve problems to combat injustice. This is the kind of investment that changes history.
