Meet GirlTREK’s (SOS) Sacred Society of Sisters Steering Committee

The Sacred Society of Sisters (SOS) Steering Committee is a trusted tribe of GirlTREK members representing diverse backgrounds, geographic communities, generations, and tenure within the movement. Convened as a small but powerful circle, they exist not to govern, but to guide with wisdom, alignment, clarity, and accountability.

As protectors of GirlTREK’s mission and legacy, SOS helps ensure that member voices remain at the center of our movement. Operating as a nimble, behind the scenes steering committee, they quietly remove roadblocks, offer insight, and help keep our vision rooted, focused, and moving forward with purpose.

The Sacred Society of Sisters serves as a sacred compass, helping GirlTREK honor the past, respond to the present, and boldly protect the future of our movement.

Habibah Jackson | Silver Spring, MD

Professional Village Builder, Trail Explorer, and Sisterhood Enthusiast

Habibah Jackson is a dynamic leader, devoted wife, proud mother, community advocate, and lifelong learner who believes that meaningful connections can change lives. Professionally, she has built a successful career as a public servant, guiding teams, managing complex projects, and coaching and mentoring others in a science-focused environment. She is passionate about helping people grow, solving problems, and turning big ideas into meaningful impact.

Beyond her professional life, Habibah has been married for more than 20 years and is the proud mother of two remarkable young men who keep her inspired, grounded, and occasionally wondering how time passed so quickly.

Habibah is deeply committed to service and volunteers with community organizations focused on improving health and wellness outcomes in the Black community. Whether she is planning events, building partnerships, or encouraging others to prioritize their well-being, she believes lasting change happens when people come together with purpose.

When she’s not leading, mentoring, or volunteering, you’ll likely find her hiking, gathering with her book club sisters, or planning the next family vacation. She embraces this season of life with gratitude, curiosity, and a healthy sense of humor.

Marie Antionette Anthony | Bakersfield, CA

Community Leader, Wellness Champion, and Sisterhood Builder

Marie Anthony is a recently retired Registered Nurse who dedicated 31 years of service to Kern Medical, where she passionately cared for patients and advocated for quality healthcare in her community. Throughout her nursing career, she was known for her compassion, leadership, and commitment to serving underserved populations.

Marie is the proud mother of three children and treasures spending time with her favorite grandson, Azlan, who lives in Washington, D.C. Family is at the center of her life, and she values every opportunity to create lasting memories with those she loves. Marie loves to travel and discover new places with her friends.

During the pandemic, Marie discovered GirlTrek while visiting Washington, D.C. Inspired by the organization’s mission to improve the health and well-being of Black women through walking, she learned that there were crews across the country but none in California’s Central Valley. Determined to change that, Marie made it her mission to bring GirlTrek to Bakersfield.

What began as a small group of friends walking together on Saturday mornings has grown into a thriving community of more than 700 members. Through GirlTrek Bakersfield, women come together to walk, encourage one another, and prioritize their health. The movement has not only promoted healthier lifestyles but has also fostered a powerful sisterhood built on connection, support, accountability, and empowerment.

A dedicated community servant, Marie believes in using her voice, experience, and resources to uplift others and address the needs of her community. She is a passionate advocate for women’s health, with a special focus on improving health outcomes for African American women.

Whether serving through healthcare, faith, community leadership, or wellness initiatives, Marie remains committed to making a positive impact and inspiring others to live healthier, fuller lives.

Erica Sutton | Atlanta, GA

Clinical Advocate, Healing Space Creator, and Radical Care Leader

Erica Sutton joined GirlTREK in 2015, beginning her journey as a committed member and quickly growing into a trusted community leader. Within her first year, she began organizing and leading neighborhood walks, creating intentional spaces for Black women to gather, move, heal, and connect. As her love for GirlTREK deepened, so did her service to the movement. Over the years, Erica has supported GirlTREK in countless ways, from hosting yoga sessions, meditation circles, and park picnics to participating in workshops and representing the movement through community outreach and recruitment at large-scale events.

At the heart of Erica’s work is a deep commitment to showing up for Black women. Professionally, she serves as a Clinical Researcher, where she has spent her career advocating for Black communities living with chronic illnesses. Through her research, she has worked to bridge critical gaps in healthcare by transforming studies into functional, accessible programs both within and beyond hospital walls. Her work ensures that Black patients and families have access to the support groups, resources, and systems they need to feel fully seen, heard, and cared for while navigating complex healthcare experiences.

For the past 30 years, Erica’s medical career has been rooted in supporting individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis, a passion that extends far beyond her professional role. In her personal time, she facilitates monthly support groups for Black women living with MS, creating sacred spaces for connection, education, and healing.

Her commitment to service also reaches across borders. Erica has participated in three mission trips to Ghana, where she supported elementary school children by providing essential school supplies and resources. Closer to home, she honors the legacy of her mother through a personal act of devotion: supporting a low-income elderly senior each month with groceries and transportation to medical appointments.

Whether in research labs, community circles, neighborhood streets, or across the globe, Erica Sutton embodies what it means to live a life of purpose, service, and radical care. Her life’s work reflects a powerful truth: when Black women are supported, entire communities are strengthened.

Amelia B. Smith | New Orleans, LA

Education Advocate, Opportunity Architect, and Purpose-Driven Guide

Amelia B. Smith was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, a city whose rich culture, resilience, and deep educational legacy helped shape her lifelong commitment to service and student empowerment. She currently serves as the Director of the Educational Talent Search TRIO Program, bringing over 15 years of dedicated experience in education, student development, and academic access initiatives.

Throughout her career, Amelia has focused on expanding opportunity pathways for first-generation students, helping them navigate academic systems, strengthen their confidence, and access the tools needed to pursue higher education. Her leadership is grounded in a belief that every student deserves not only access, but also consistent guidance, encouragement, and advocacy as they work toward their educational goals. Under her direction, programs have centered student success, personal growth, and long-term achievement, with a strong emphasis on removing barriers that often stand in the way of college and career readiness.

Amelia’s approach to education is both strategic and deeply personal. She is known for fostering supportive environments where students feel seen, heard, and equipped to thrive. Her work reflects a long-standing dedication to equity in education and a passion for helping young people realize possibilities that may have once felt out of reach.

Outside of her professional life, Amelia enjoys nature photography, capturing the beauty of the outdoors through a thoughtful and creative lens. She also prioritizes walking as a form of movement and wellness, using it as a way to stay active, clear her mind, and remain grounded. Travel is another source of inspiration and renewal for her, offering opportunities to experience new places, cultures, and perspectives.

Above all, Amelia values time spent with her family, which remains a central source of joy, balance, and connection in her life. Whether in her professional role or personal pursuits, she embodies a commitment to growth, presence, and meaningful engagement with the world around her.

Nicole Crooks | Miami, FL

Story Keeper, Cultural Strategist, and Collective Healing Visionary

Nicole Crooks is a daughter of a powerful legacy—one carried by her ancestors, nurtured by her village, and reflected in the sisterhood of GirlTREK. She is the proud mother of three of her favorite humans and “Coco” to her favorite little adventure companion, and a lifelong believer in the power of community, connection, and collective healing.

For more than three decades, Nicole has dedicated her life to creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, connected, and inspired to thrive. A two-time TEDx speaker, educator, cultural strategist, and recipient of GirlTREK’s Voice of Change Award, she believes some of our greatest transformations happen when people gather to walk, listen deeply, remember who they are, and dream and work together toward something greater than themselves.

Her journey has taken many forms—from supporting the well-being of Black women, youth, and families to preserving cultural memory, building community, and more recently advancing climate justice. Through it all, she has remained committed to lifting up stories that are too often overlooked and honoring the people whose love, sacrifice, and courage made our lives possible.

As a longtime resident of Historic Overtown in Miami, Nicole is inspired by the wisdom of elders, the brilliance of young people, and the sacred responsibility of carrying stories forward. Receiving GirlTREK’s Voice of Change Award was especially meaningful because it affirmed something she has always believed: that stories can heal, movement can be medicine, and when Black women gather with intention, there is no limit to what is possible.

GirlTREK feels like home because it embodies so much of what Nicole holds dear—joy, sisterhood, wellness, purpose, and the power of our village. Whether she is leading a walk, facilitating a restorative circle, traveling, getting lost in a good book, meditating by the ocean, or simply laughing and loving life with family and friends, she treasures the simple moments and understands that joy is not an afterthought—it is part of the work.

Nicole often says that we are the wildest dreams of our ancestors. With every step she takes, she seeks to honor those who came before her while helping create a world where future generations can thrive. She believes thriving communities honor the people, stories, and cultural memories that have sustained them across generations.

Chrysantha “Courageous Chrys” Norwood | Detroit, MI

Faith-Led Educator, Legacy Builder, and Courage Catalyst

Chrysantha “Chrys” Norwood, whose GirlTREK superhero name is Courageous Chrys, is an educator, faith leader, entrepreneur, community advocate, and lifelong servant committed to helping Black women, children, and families thrive.

Her GirlTREK journey began in 2012 when she became a Crew Leader, walking alongside her students and introducing them to movement, wellness, and community. What began as a commitment to healthy living grew into more than a decade of leadership, advocacy, and service within GirlTREK. As a Detroit leader during GirlTREK’s early expansion, Chrys helped build walking communities, cultivate local leadership, and spread the message of health, healing, and sisterhood. She has served in roles including Team Leader, Neighborhood Captain, City Representative, and Regional Representative, all focused on strengthening the movement and supporting women across communities.

Chrys is a proud GirlTREK Trailblazer Fellow who traveled to Prince William Sound, Alaska for sea kayaking and Leave No Trace wilderness camping. She is also a GirlTREK Harriet Tubman Award recipient. Later, she served on the Adventure Squad, leading hikes in the Rocky Mountains during national Stress Protest gatherings, encouraging women to reclaim their health through walking and outdoor exploration. Throughout her journey, Chrys has been a passionate ambassador for GirlTREK, sharing its mission through community presentations, media interviews, and public forums, including Fox 2 Detroit features and print coverage. She continues to uplift the message of healing, sisterhood, and wellness for Black women, inspiring women and girls to prioritize health, joy, and purpose.

Professionally, Chrys has spent over two decades in education, earning advanced degrees in teaching, special education, and educational leadership while serving as a teacher, instructional coach, educational leader, and assistant principal. She is deeply committed to advocating for children, supporting families, and ensuring every child has opportunity and a champion.

Her service extends into her faith community at Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, where she serves in ministry, prayer, outreach, scholarship initiatives, and community engagement. She also supports youth development and encourages women in their faith journeys.

Chrys is the owner of About You Tees, a custom apparel business that blends creativity, inspiration, faith, and entrepreneurship to celebrate culture and purpose.

Whether serving students, leading in ministry, mentoring youth, or walking with her GirlTREK sisters, Courageous Chrys is guided by a simple belief: investing in people transforms lives, strengthens communities, and builds lasting legacies. She believes wellness is healing, connection, purpose, and community—and she is honored to help empower Black women to thrive.

Juanita Langston | Powder Springs, GA

Financial Empowerment Advocate, Policy Champion, and Community Changemaker

Juanita Langston was born in Georgia and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Over the course of her life, she has also lived in Chicago, Illinois, Fayetteville, North Carolina, and currently resides in the Metro Atlanta area. Her geographic journey has mirrored a lifelong commitment to growth, service, and community engagement across diverse regions.

Langston earned her undergraduate degree from Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia, and pursued graduate studies at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She further strengthened her financial expertise through The Investment Training Institute in Atlanta, which led her into a career in finance and investment services.

Professionally, Langston became a licensed stockbroker and day trader with Waterhouse Securities, later serving in multiple high-level financial roles over a career spanning more than 30 years, including Stockbroker, Retirement Plan Specialist, and IRS agent. Throughout her career, she has been deeply committed to financial education and empowerment, volunteering in The Atlanta Empowerment Zone where she taught financial literacy and helped community members build greater economic confidence and stability.

In addition to her finance career, Langston is a published writer, with short stories and poetry featured in three anthologies, reflecting her creative voice and storytelling ability alongside her analytical professional work.

Her commitment to service extends into advocacy. Langston is a Fellowship recipient and Care Fellow Alum with Caring Across Generations, where she supports efforts to strengthen care infrastructure for caregivers, care workers, and care receivers through state and federal policy advocacy. She also actively engages with organizations including Indivisible Cobb, Indivisible Silver Comet, I Dream in Black, Black Voters Matter, Common Cause, Fair Fight, NAMI, the ACLU, and the Rosalynn Carter Mental Health and Caregiver Program at the Carter Presidential Library.

Outside of her professional and advocacy work, Langston enjoys traveling, hiking, yoga, and participating in community engagement events that keep her connected to people and purpose. Across all her roles and accomplishments, she holds one identity closest to her heart: being a mother, which she describes as her most treasured and meaningful role in life.

Michelle White | Brooklyn, NY

Justice Advocate, Grassroots Leader, and Social Justice Builder

Michelle White is a dedicated wife and mother who proudly carries her Panamanian heritage alongside her deep Brooklyn, New York roots. She is a passionate community advocate based in her beloved Brooklyn, where she has built a lifelong commitment to service, justice, and neighborhood care.

For the past three decades, Michelle has worked for the same community-based organization rooted in the very neighborhood where she lives. She considers herself a strong, organized, and trusted leader within her community, particularly within the organization’s legal services unit. Over the past 30 years, she has dedicated her work to advancing economic and social justice, focusing on real, urgent needs that affect everyday families. Her grassroots efforts center on preventing evictions, securing utility assistance, helping residents navigate housing subsidies, supporting immigrant communities, and ensuring families can access SNAP benefits and other essential resources. Michelle is deeply hands-on in her service, including her consistent work in a weekly community food pantry, where she serves food to neighbors who often look like her and share her lived experience, yet are struggling to put food on their tables. For her, this work is not just professional, but personal, rooted in dignity, care, and solidarity.

Through GirlTREK, Michelle discovered an expanded sense of wellness, self-care, and sisterhood. For the past seven years, she has served as co-leader of a GirlTREK crew called Brooklyn’s Finest. While rooted in Brooklyn, the crew actively leads educational treks throughout New York City and collaborates with other GirlTREK crews, building connections, movement, and shared purpose across communities.

During the pandemic, Michelle also leaned into her love of cooking to maintain connection and joy. She created “Cooking with Brooklyn’s Finest,” a weekly virtual cooking series hosted on Zoom that brought women together from New York and beyond. These sessions became a space for nourishment, conversation, and sisterhood during a time of isolation, strengthening bonds across distance and circumstance.

Across all aspects of her life, Michelle remains a proud Black woman committed to justice, sisterhood, and the building of healthy, thriving communities. Whether through legal advocacy, food access work, community leadership, or wellness spaces, she continues to show up with consistency, care, and purpose for the people she serves.

Aletha Tarpley Mills | Upper Marlboro, MD

Legacy Builder, Relationship Cultivator, and Faith-Guided Servant Leader

Aletha Tarpley Mills is a legacy builder, sisterhood advocate, encourager, memory keeper, joy spreader, and walker whose life reflects a deep commitment to faith, family, service, and community.

Aletha has served as a dedicated civil servant for over 17 years and is now prayerfully preparing for the next chapter of retirement. Throughout her career and personal life, she has remained grounded in service, consistently showing up with compassion, wisdom, and a heart for helping others. A devoted mother of two, Aletha has a heart big enough to nurture, embrace, and encourage not only her own children but countless others along the way.

She is deeply passionate about family, faith, and community and looks forward to exploring her family history, making meaningful connections, and building a lasting family tree that preserves stories, honors legacy, and inspires future generations. As a memory keeper, Aletha understands the importance of knowing where we come from so that future generations can remain rooted in identity, pride, and purpose.

Known for her warm smile, caring spirit, and willingness to offer guidance when it is needed most, Aletha brings comfort, encouragement, and light into every space she enters. She finds joy in uplifting others, celebrating life’s simple blessings, and creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and valued. She loves encouraging others, spreading joy, and bringing people together through sisterhood, faith, and community.

Aletha’s commitment to wellness and collective care is also reflected in her leadership within GirlTREK. She proudly serves as co-leader of the Conqueror’s Crew, where she has helped cultivate a consistent culture of movement, accountability, and sisterhood. For more than a decade, Conqueror’s Crew has faithfully hosted walks at Watkins Regional Park, creating a trusted gathering space where women can walk, heal, connect, and reclaim their health together. Through these walks, Aletha has helped foster meaningful relationships and strengthen community bonds, one step at a time.

Her faith in God remains the foundation that keeps her grounded, grateful, and moving forward with purpose. Whether walking with her GirlTREK sisters, spending time with family and friends, or encouraging others to prioritize their well-being, Aletha strives to live a life rooted in love, service, joy, and connection. Her life is a beautiful testament to the power of showing up, pouring into others, and leaving behind a legacy that endures.

Kia Ruiz | Arvada, CO

Earth Steward, Food Justice Leader, and Community Cultivator

Kia Ruiz brings her background in biology into her work at the intersection of food systems, environmental stewardship, community resilience, and values-driven leadership. Her work reflects a deep commitment to living in relationship with the land, strengthening local food systems, and supporting communities in building healthier and more sustainable futures.

She serves as Director of The Local Seeds Coalition, where she helps advance seed sovereignty and food system resilience. She also serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Non-GMO Project and Vice President of the Board for Mountain Phoenix Community School, contributing her leadership, perspective, and commitment to education, sustainability, and community-centered values across all three roles.

In addition to her leadership work, Kia is a farmer, herbalist, mother, and trail enthusiast. She is also a gun violence prevention advocate with RawTools, where she supports efforts to transform weapons into garden tools and powerful symbols of healing, restoration, and renewal.

Through GirlTREK, Kia serves on the SOS Committee, is a founding teacher with GirlTREK Gardeners, and previously led hikes with the Adventure Squad during Stress Protests, guiding women into nature as a space for reflection, movement, and healing.

Whether online, on the trails around Denver, or tending the farm she stewards near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Kia remains rooted in a practice of care for land and community. Her work reflects a steady commitment to cultivating healthier food systems, deeper environmental awareness, and meaningful connection to place, people, and purpose.

Beverly McCoy Rideaux | Houston, TX

Community Health Advocate, Earth & Garden Steward, and Outdoor Wellness Leader

Beverly Rideaux is a transformational leader, wellness advocate, community organizer, and lifelong champion for Black women’s health. She believes deeply in the power of movement, nature, and sisterhood to change lives, and she has spent more than a decade creating spaces where women feel seen, supported, and inspired to reclaim their well-being.

Professionally, Beverly retired in 2024 from a successful career as an Underwriter and Senior Education & Sales Consultant and Sales Leader, where she empowered teams, solved complex challenges, and helped agents grow with confidence and clarity. She created Dirt Therapy LLC before retirement with the intent of helping communities heal through gardening, walking, and intentional connection. She’s also a part-time substitute teacher with the Katy Independent School District in a Houston suburb.

Recently, Beverly completed training through the Harris County AgriLife Extension Service to become a Certified Master Gardener Volunteer, expanding her mission to help Texans—especially those in Harris County—grow their own food in all types of spaces. Her work continues to make gardening accessible, empowering families and communities to cultivate wellness from the ground up.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Beverly is a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and a heart‑centered leader. Over the past 25 years, she has served with Jack and Jill of America, Memorial Park Conservancy, the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, and contributed to nonprofit projects through the Allstate Foundation, including work with Lumity. She also works as a part-time substitute teacher with the Katy Independent School District and is a member of Harris County Master Gardeners—always advancing equity, community wellness, and meaningful impact.

Beverly’s GirlTrek journey began in 2015, and she has since become a beloved Crew Leader, Local Organizer, and past nationally recognized Adventure Squad Leader. She leads walks and hikes across Houston, partners with local parks and nonprofits, and encourages Black women to take up space in the outdoors with pride. Whether she is guiding a trek, mentoring new gardeners, or building partnerships that strengthen community wellness, Beverly believes lasting change happens when women come together with purpose.

When she’s not leading, teaching, or volunteering, you’ll likely find her exploring a new trail, tending to her garden, or planning her next outdoor or travel adventure. She embraces this season of life with gratitude, joy, and a commitment to leaving every space—and every sister—better than she found them.

Trina Baker (Timeless Trina B) | Chandler, AZ

Community Impact Leader, Nature-Based Wellness Advocate, and Engagement Builder

Trina Baker, also known as Timeless Trina B, is a proud Pacific Northwest native, community organizer, and outdoor enthusiast with extensive experience in grassroots engagement and nonprofit leadership. She brings a deep passion for community building and creating spaces where people feel connected, supported, and inspired.

Trina served for six years with GirlTREK Seattle as a Neighborhood Captain and Adventure Squad Hike Leader. During that time, she helped lead hiking experiences both locally and at Stress Protest in the Rocky Mountains, creating opportunities for women, youth, and families to experience the healing power of movement, nature, and community. Her leadership has been rooted in helping others reconnect with themselves and with one another through shared outdoor experiences.

With a professional background in community outreach, event coordination, and logistics, Trina has built a career centered on bringing people together and turning vision into meaningful action. She is passionate about fostering connection through wellness, service, and time spent in nature, believing deeply in the power of intentional community.

Her personal motto, Dolce far niente, meaning “The Sweetness of Doing Nothing,” serves as a grounding reminder to slow down, embrace the present moment, and appreciate life’s simple joys. Whether organizing in community, leading on the trail, or simply creating space for rest and reflection, Trina carries that spirit with her, encouraging others to find balance, joy, and presence in everyday life.

Zakiyyah Smith | Long Beach, CA

Operations Strategist, Health Equity Advocate, and Community Builder

Zakiyyah Smith is a proud mother, a graduate of the University of California, Riverside, and an operations professional with a deep commitment to social justice, equity, and community care. With more than a decade of experience in operations, primarily within educational and nonprofit organizations, she has built a career centered on creating systems, structures, and support that help people and communities thrive. She currently works on a technology team, bringing both strategic thinking and a people-centered approach to her work.

She is widely recognized as a holistic advocate and community connector who is passionate about creating spaces rooted in empowerment, balance, and unity. Her work consistently centers the well-being of Black women, families, and communities, with a focus on ensuring people have access to the care, resources, and support they need to flourish. In 2024, Zakiyyah became a certificated lactation educator, expanding her advocacy to include breastfeeding rights and maternal health support. Through this work, she provides education, resources, and guidance to help mothers and families receive the care they need and deserve during one of life’s most important transitions.

Zakiyyah is a member of the LAAAWPPI Class of 2026, joining nearly 500 Black women who are advancing leadership and driving change across the public and private sectors. She is also a trainee of the California Black Women’s Health Project’s Sisters Mentally Mobilized program, GirlTREK, and the California Conference for Equality and Justice, each of which has further strengthened her commitment to justice, healing, and community leadership.

Her GirlTREK journey includes serving as a former California State Coach, where she helped support and strengthen the largest public health and self-care movement for Black women. In addition, Zakiyyah co-founded Kismet Honey, a wellness company active from 2020 to 2023, where she helped lead retreats, events, and facilitated experiences centered on self-care and community care. Through that work, she helped create spaces designed to move people from simply surviving to truly thriving.

Across every role she holds, Zakiyyah remains committed to building healthier communities and fostering collective care. Whether through advocacy, operations, wellness work, or leadership development, she continues to bring people together in ways that inspire healing, connection, and lasting transformation.

Omana Douce McDermott | Washington, DC

Holistic Healer, Public Health Visionary, and Sacred Space Creator

Omana Douce McDermott is a heart-centered public health practitioner, community builder, and healer working at the intersection of health equity, holistic wellness, social change, and spiritual connection. With a Master of Public Health and a background spanning international health, mind-body-spirit medicine, and community-based programming, she has dedicated her career to supporting mission-driven organizations and creating spaces that foster healing, connection, and growth.

She is deeply passionate about bringing people together through holistic wellness practices that nurture both individual and collective well-being. Her work centers on creating experiences that weave together mind-body-spirit tools, meaningful dialogue, and immersive healing practices to cultivate resilience, empowerment, and a deeper sense of belonging.

Omana was introduced to GirlTREK in 2022 when she joined the organization as a State Coach in New Orleans, Louisiana. Today, she serves as a Community Care Moderator and Steering Committee Ambassador. Her connection to GirlTREK began during graduate school at Tulane University, where she first learned about the organization and immediately felt drawn to its mission. Determined to become involved, she sought opportunities to contribute to the movement and support its work.

That same year, Omana attended her first Stress Protest—an experience she describes as life-changing. Surrounded by women showing up fully as themselves and unapologetically prioritizing their joy, health, and well-being, she witnessed the transformative power of community in action. The energy, authenticity, and collective commitment to thriving left a lasting impression and inspired her ongoing dedication to creating and supporting spaces where people can heal, connect, and flourish together.

Today, Omana is forging a path that blends public health, program design, energy healing, spiritual facilitation, and community engagement. Through her work, she seeks to create experiences that help people reconnect with themselves, one another, and the natural world.

Mykal Fraser | Stone Mountain, GA

Transformational Leader, Faith-Guided Strategist, and Purpose Builder

Mykal Fraser is a strategic executive, nonprofit leader, and servant leader whose career is dedicated to helping people and organizations navigate change with purpose, clarity, and compassion. With more than two decades of leadership experience across healthcare, consulting, organizational strategy, and nonprofit leadership, she is known for transforming complex challenges into opportunities for growth while building cultures where people can thrive.

She currently serves as Associate Vice President of Change Management at Aveanna Healthcare, where she leads enterprise change management, strategic communications, and merger and acquisition integrations. In this role, she partners closely with executive leadership to align people, processes, and culture in support of sustainable business outcomes. Her expertise includes strategic planning, organizational transformation, executive communications, stakeholder engagement, and leadership development. In addition to her corporate leadership, she serves as Interim Executive Director of Community Connections, a Georgia-based nonprofit supporting children and families through foster care and community-based services, after previously serving on its Board of Directors as Board Chair, where she helped provide governance and strategic oversight during key phases of growth. Her commitment to service extends beyond her professional roles. She serves on the Board of Directors for Survivors Nest, contributing to long-term strategy and impact, and volunteers with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, grounded in her belief that even small acts of care can bring hope and healing to children and families facing difficult circumstances.

At the center of her leadership is her unwavering faith in God. She believes leadership is a call to serve, and that true leadership is rooted in humility, integrity, compassion, and stewardship. Her faith guides both her personal and professional life, inspiring her to lead with excellence and encouraging others to step boldly into their purpose. She is deeply passionate about helping women thrive in every aspect of their lives. Through mentoring, coaching, and speaking, she empowers women to lead confidently, embrace their gifts, and pursue success without losing sight of their well-being, values, or purpose.

As an active GirlTREK member, Mykal sees walking as essential to her wellness and leadership practice. For her, walking is more than exercise—it is a sacred space for prayer, reflection, strategic thinking, and renewal, where clarity and ideas often emerge.

Outside of work and service, Mykal treasures her family. She is the proud wife of Dennis Fraser and holds one of her most meaningful titles as “Favorite Aunt.” Whether spending time with loved ones, mentoring others, or serving her community, she values relationships as one of life’s greatest investments.
